What inspired us to make covIDcard?
My name is Pankti Doshi and I graduated from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine as a Genetics Counselor in March 2020 -- what a seemingly unfortunate time to start a role as a healthcare provider.
I accepted a position as a Cancer Genetics Counselor in Manhattan, so I can make my official move to New York City.
I was looking forward to experience the “city that never sleeps”– the $1 slice pizzas, 4 a.m. bars, shopping, museums, art, etc. February 29, 2020 marked the date of the first reported COVID case in New York.
I waved goodbye to the hopes and dreams I had of truly living the New York way.
It wasn’t just me, it was you and everyone in this world. In solidarity, we watched how our lives changed so quickly. The lock-downs, the quarantine periods, endless zoom calls, work-from-home. We adjusted.
December 14, 2020 marked a day in history, where an intensive care nurse received the first dose of the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine.
December 20th was mine! As I eagerly chatted with the on-call nurse who administered my vaccine, I could not stop thinking about this special moment, this special day.
Well, doesn’t every idea starts with a problem. Mine was simple: the paper vaccination record card is flimsy and easy to lose. As our favorite restaurants, bars, and clubs gradually open, we need a functional way to demonstrate that we are vaccinated.
Consequently, covIDcard. Finally a way to show the world you are vaccinated in style! Let’s mark the beginning of the end in a very painful time in our history.
